Sam Zarr -VS- Steve Pintar |
Out of the Darkness
Results: The Rookie avoids 4th loss in row with an assist from Christian McCaffrey Coach Sam Zarr may have forgotten what it was like to win after losing three straight. Sack Attack were friendly enough to remind them. The Rookie ended up on top against Sack Attack, winning 114 to 96. With the win, The Rookie put an end to Sack Attack's three-game win streak. The win brings The Rookie's record to 5 – 3, while dropping Sack Attack to 4 – 4. Coach Zarr didn't rely on their All-Stars to pull this one out, instead getting contributions from unexpected quarters. Joe Burrow scored 36 points, DeVonta Smith came up with 18, and T.J. Hockenson finished with 14. Smith's performance this week stopped his five game streak of not meeting his projections. He has become something of a lodestar for The Rookie, as they have never lost when he overperforms his expectations, going 3 – 0. Meanwhile, there were plenty of chefs cooking up this week's loss for Sack Attack. They had six underperformers, with Matthew Stafford (13 points) being the worst.2 Stafford has now failed to top the league average quarterback in seven straight games. Nothing went well for him on Sunday: he tossed this pick-six, then left the game with a thumb injury. On the coaching front, the gap in coaching ability was on display this week. Coach Zarr did their part to secure the victory. They left Brock Purdy and his 18.6 expected points on the bench, favoring Joe Burrow (15.2 points expected). This decision netted Coach Zarr an extra 15 points. After their decisions this week, Coach Zarr's lineup moves are now a net-plus for the year. Coach Steve Pintar could have made Coach Zarr pay if he set the best possible lineup. Perhaps scared off by Cole Kmet's zero point performance last week, Coach Pintar left him on the bench in favor of Darren Waller, despite the experts' prediction that Kmet should have played. This decision took a 7 point chunk out of Sack Attack's final score. If Coach Pintar had left Darren Waller on the bench and also started Jordan Addison, Sack Attack would have won the game.
